The distance for a Septic Tank, Waste Water Treatment System or Percolation Area from a boundary or public roadway is as follows:
- Public Roadway: 4 metres
- Boundary: 3 metres

In the case of an existing dwelling on a site that cannot comply with all minimum distances as per the Code of Practice (CoP), the designing engineer will make recommendations as to the most suitable location for the Waste Water Treatment System based on a review of a Site Suitability Assessment. For new builds/green field sites, the minimum distances must be complied with without exception.
